Born and raised in Mumbai, Dr. Mathew obtained his Medical Degree from Grant Medical College (Mumbai). He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology and is a former Chairman of the Department of Medicine and current Chief of Gastroenterology at Kimball Medical Centre, Lakewood, New Jersey. Dr. Mathew was also listed as one of the “Top Docs” in Gastroenterology by New Jersey Magazine in 2005 and in Jersey magazine in 2010 & 2011.
Dr. Mathew credits his success to Mumbai, which gave him everything and now he wants to give back something to the society, “I have been thinking to do something for the society for a very long time, especially for the socially ignored class. Therefore I am very happy to associate with Yasoda Charitable Trust (Mumbai) which has medical and educational wings, lead by founder and managing trustee – Mr. Sasi Nair.
I have found the right platform, and I can be of service to the marginalized”. Dr. Mathew advocates charity as a duty, “We all have various duties to perform,
a doctor saves lives and a teacher gives education. To those deprived of proper medical care who are not able to get proper medication, and education, it is the duty of professionals like us to help them unconditionally.”
His expertise is in Gastro Esophageal Reflux Disease (GERD), Esophageal Stricture, Esophageal Varices, Peptic Ulcer Disease, Helicobacter Pylori, Sprue, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Ulcerative and Crohn’s Colitis, Clostridium Difficile Colitis, Colon Polyps and Cancer, Diverticulosis, Hepatitis, Alcoholic Liver Disease, Gall Bladder and Pancreatic Disease.
His other interests include Management of Hypertension, Diabetes, Hypercholesterolemia, Hypothyroidism and Congestive Heart Failure. Procedures performed by Dr. Mathew :- Esophago Gastro Duodenoscopy (EGD), Esophageal stricture Dilatation, Esophageal Varceal Ligation, Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy (PEG), Small Bowel Enteroscopy, Colon Cancer Screening, Colonoscopy with Polypectomy and Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangio Pancreatography (ERCP) with Sphincterotomy, stone extraction and stent insertion.
He is the past president of the Lakewood Rotary Club, New Jersey and a Paul Harris Fellow. He is fluent in Marathi, Hindi, Gujarati, Tamil and Malayalam besides English. The bottomline, says Dr Mathew, is: “Help the poor and needy, help your nation grow”.
